The Sunway Diploma in Accounting provides an academic bridge and a firm foundation for student’s academic pathways. Students can choose to progress for a professional qualification or tertiary studies. With Sunway Diploma programmes, students have the advantage of a fast track progression towards their future career. 

Lecturers and Placement Advisors assist students with information on career choice, university applications and students’ placement at universities of their choice, internships, professional pathway and job placements.

What Is This Programme About?

The Diploma in Accounting programme is designed to provides a strong foundation in general aspects of business and accounting and prepares students with the effective skills to support the accounting function of a business and the processes of a company. 

This course also provide the learning of how business elements integrate with each other enabling you to communicate successfully in any business environment and in a nutshell, Sunway DIA nurtures business knowledge and experience by preparing students to join the work force or for future studies in the accounting field. 

The Sunway Diploma in Accounting graduates will have the option to enter into Year 2 of undergraduate programmes at a wide range of top ranking local and overseas universities, including Nottingham University Malaysia Campus, Heriot Watt University Malaysia Campus, University of Waikato, New Zealand, University of Canterbury, New Zealand, Birmingham City University, UK, University of Western Australia, Curtin University Sarawak and Australia, Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, James Cook University, Singapore, KDU University College, Victoria University, Melbourne, Australian Catholic University, Sydney, Cardiff University, Wales, Kaplan Higher Education Academy, Singapore, University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS), UCSI University and Sunway University. 

With our articulation pathways, our DIA graduates can choose to study overseas in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore. DIA also allows for progression to professional accounting and taxation qualification offered by ACCA and Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM). Thus, obtaining the DIA is the first steps towards becoming a chartered professional accountant or tax professional.

From 2014 onwards, the Malaysian Ministry of Education has officially announced that the General Education Subjects (GES) or Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU) will replace the Compulsory Subjects or Mata Pelajaran Wajib (MPW) for all private higher education institutions in Malaysia, including Curtin University Sarawak campus.The new MPU units will only affect new students’ intake that enrolled in 2014 semester. Exception to take the new MPU units is only applicable to students who undertake foundation, Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy. The Private Higher Education Institution Act 1996 (Act 555) provides that every private higher education institutions shall teach the compulsory subjects: These Units are compulsory for both international and Malaysian students to take as it is in compliance with Section 43(3) Act 555 for the students to graduate.

Entry Requirement

  • A pass in SPM or its equivalent with a minimum of 3 credits including Mathematics and a pass in English; or
  • A pass in STPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GP2.0) in any subject, and credits in Mathematics and a pass in English at SPM level; or
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Maqbul and credits in Mathematics and a pass in English at SPM level; and
  • A certificate or its equivalent in a related field.
